Taiwan Trip 19th Sept 12 to 26th Sept 12; Day 2 Part 2 - Ximending, Taipei Metro Malls

Okay, finally back after more than a month. Just feel so lazy to blog. But I wanna quickly finish the entire post!

Oh and before that I wanna share something! I have won 2 air tickets to Taiwan! :D Flying on scoot! There's free in flight meals somemore! So I'm going Taiwan again! :) My sis put in the next most effort but it's a pity I'm not giving her the ticket :x I hope she can concentrate on her exams..That's why.. Hope in 2014 I can bring sissy to Taiwan then with my family! :D

Right, so day 2, part 2 in taiwan, where we have gone to Taipei already..

Taipei Main Station
So after some time, we have finally reached Taipei Main Station! We went to buy this 悠遊卡 or EZ travel I think. Buy these from the counter staff themselves if you are students! Because there's a student one available and you get to have 20% off certain travels!

The first sight that greeted us as we passed by the gantry. hehe. So, we hopped on to the wrong train. As we were in the train figuring how to get to Ximending, one lady overheard us and immediately told us to take the train opposite back and walk to the correct line. Why are Taiwanese so nice? I doubt Singaporeans will do that. If you didn't ask us, we would not bother. One reason is out of shyness. Haha. But after this incident, I guess I have reflected and would be more pro-active in helping people!

Amazed at how considerate Taiwanese are. This is their queuing culture. If you see anyone disobeying the unspoken rule, they must be tourists.

And so, this is what I see when I came out of Ximending Station! First time in Taiwan so I'm intrigued by all these buildings. Hehe.

We wanted to deposit our stuff back in the hotel and come out again ASAP! But we kinda got lost. Car looked at all the maps she has prepared. But asking people is still easier!

SWIIO Hotel (二十輪旅店)
Thankfully we walked past this guy handing out tissue packets with our hotel's ad on it! Haha! His name is Xiaoqi hehehe. Then he gave us the directions. But at the cross junction, Caroline chose to believe her inanimate google map -.- so after a long time, we finally reached our hotel!
The hotel is shared with other tenants in the same building. There's this sleazy bar at one of the floors. Hence,  only 2 out of the 3 lifts are in service for hotel guests. The lobby is located at the 6th floor while the rooms are located either on the 10th or the 6th floor. We got the one on the 10th floor.

This is how our lobby looks like. I think it exudes this classical English literature feeling hehe.

Then there was this very user-friendly map in the lobby. If you have any enquires for the staff, they will refer to this map and point you the way.

This is the free internet service available at our corridor, tucked away in some corner. There's only one computer, but hardly anyone uses. We only used once when we wanted to check the price of the bus tickets to JiuFen.

And yay to our room! I thought they said the room we got was under promotion and there was no windows! Thank God for some reason perhaps the non windows room was occupied, and this is the room we got! You hardly have any space to walk around. But design wise, it's still awesome! I guess it's still pretty alright.

Amenities are changed every day. I dont like the soap though. So hard to squeeze.

The shampoo, soap and body lotion? But it smelled like hand soap haha. Refilled to the brim almost every day.

The shower head is the pretty cool nice as well. Like those found in condo or spas. Too bad neither me nor Car take any photos of that.

I like it's mirror. If you take with the lomo effect, it's like you decorate the border like that.

The fridge has got nothing inside. Which is good. If not we will be tempted to take stuff in and have to pay the high price. The snacks are refilled every day.

There's this iPhone Dock for Apple users. It's impossible to remove and put it elsewhere. And we didn't know how to change the time.

The bed. Don't think it looks really big. This photo is so cute. Haha.

How the corridor to the lift looks like. Now it seems like it's some back alley old English setting?

The first street performance I saw.

Modern Toilet (便所主題餐廳)
And then.. We decided to go to Modern Toilet for dinner!

Again, we followed Google Map which was rather inaccurate again. Fortunately, our hotel is really near to Modern Toilet. And after just a turn into an alley, we looked up and saw the toilet bowl sticking out.

Car said she didn't want to eat from the stall. A lot of people were saying their food is lousy. But frankly it tasted just average. Nothing special but not too bad either. Take note that there is a minimum spending per person. So just order some dessert if you are not hungry and just want to experience the novelty!

I asked for this set meal. It's some curry chicken I think. This colour, in a toilet bowl. hahaha. It tasted good. hehe. Costs around NT$210. Comes with free soup, ice cream and drink with a choice of green or red tea. If you top up NT$30 more, you can bring home a 尿壺, or urinal. Haha. I chose that top up. And it looks like that! If you tell them beforehand you wanted this, they would pour your drink into this.

Saw other people eating hot pot out of bath tubs. Shall try it the next time.

Close up of the soup and the rice.

Caroline ordered fries. Served in the squatting toilet bowl - taiwanese style because the top portion is covered haha. Actually I think it looks more like a clog to me.

Oh ya we were seated on toilet bowls eating off from the bath tubs. And you get to slip in feedback cards into the bath tubs.

This is the water tap! Haha. Their actual toilet bowl is just the toilet bowl. Nothing special.

A hearty meal! Then we decided to venture to Taipei main stations to shop around.

Taipei Main Station (台北車站)

This is the toilet found in the station. The red light meant that the cubicle is occupied! So nice to have toilets in train stations! I kept forgetting we are not supposed to throw our used tissue paper down. I guess there should be choke-age from time to time. Taiwan's government need to upgrade the whole sewage system!

I like how they always keep to one side! Regardless of age! We only kind of attempt to do that during peak hours over here. :/

One of the underground malls in Taipei Main Station! You get to buy make up sets from its vending machine! This one is endorsed by Jolin Tsai!

I also like how they have such storage cabinets in their underground pass! It's around NT$20 for the small space and NT$60 for the large space. Once you slot your coins and key in your cabinet, they will issue you a password! So convenient!

We love Taipei! This is the end of Day 2! And I took over 2 hours. 4 more days to go :/

One more photo. Ah zong mee sua!

Signing off,
Sarah :)
